A car was flipped over onto its roof in a dramatic crash in a 20mph zone in Tameside on Thursday evening (January 15). Emergency crews, including police, paramedics and fire crews, attended the smash on Katherine Street in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Pictures and videos shared online show a black car that appeared to have flipped entirely onto its roof in the middle of the road. The street was closed by police amid the emergency response.

Two other vehicles were also involved. One person was treated by paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service but the nature of their condition has not been confirmed.

Debris was seen scattered across the road as horrified witnesses rushed to help. Emergency services had been called to the incident at around 5.30pm which involved three vehicles.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly after 5:30pm this evening (Thursday 15 January), one fire engine and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton Community Fire Station were called to attend a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on Katherine Street, Ashton.

“Crews arrived quickly and worked alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe. One casualty was transferred into the care of North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour.”

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a statement.
