As members of the Royal Family, the Prince and Princess of Wales may live a lifestyle quite different from most of ours, however, there are some aspects of the way they live that feel surprisingly familiar. Dog-lovers, in particular, are likely to strongly relate to one particular detail of their life together – their sleeping arrangement.

The insight was originally revealed last summer, but has resurfaced this week. During a visit to Duchy College, Prince William said that he and Kate allow their dog Orla to sleep on their bed with them. According to The Express, Irish actress Louisa Harland told Hits Radio Cornwall that Prince William told her that ‘his little dog sleeps on the bed with them at night, with him and Kate.’

While some owners prefer not to allow their pets on their furniture, many dog lovers will understand the pull and comfort of having a furry best friend cuddled up with them while they sleep.

The couple’s dog, Orla is a black cocker spaniel and was a gift from Kate’s brother, James Middleton. He has credited his own first dog, Ella with saving his life by helping him through his mental health struggles.

The Royal Family share a long history with dogs, from the late Queen Elizabeth II’s iconic Corgi’s to current Queen Camilla’s rescue pups. The Queen’s most recent adoption, Moley, came from Battersea Cats and Dogs Home (of which she is patron), and Her Majesty proudly posed with the new addition to the family in a portrait on social media.
