A fire in the Hamiltonhill area of Glasgow was tended to by police this afternoon (January 16), who have now confirmed that a 54-year-old man was arrested. The blaze took place on Wester Common Road shortly before 2pm.
The arrest comes after ‘armed police’ were spotted on nearby Bardowie Street, the Record reports.
Police officers and five fire appliances, and an aerial fire appliance, were dispatched to the blaze which is believed to have started in a flat on the 15th floor of the block.
No injuries were reported, and the building was fully evacuated while emergency crews dealt with the blaze.
Police have now confirmed that a 54-year-old man was arrested, and enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2pm on Friday, 16 January 2026, we received a report of a fire at a property on Wester Common Road, Glasgow.
“There were no reports of any injuries.
“A 54-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”
Police earlier said that Emergency services were in attendance and people were being asked to avoid the area.
A spokesperson from the Scottish Fire and Rescue service said:“ The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene of a building fire in Glasgow. The incident is ongoing and five appliances and an aerial appliance were mobilised.”
