MILLWALL and Bristol City have been sanctioned by the FA for the post-match fight that broke out after the Lions beat the Robins 1-0 in December.

It was alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or technical area staff did not behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way after the final whistle, and the two teams admitted the charges against them. Bristol City has been fined £40,000, and Millwall £30,000.

Lions coach Dave Livermore and goalkeeper Joel Coleman were also individually charged by the FA for acting in an improper manner and/or using violent conduct around the same time.

Livermore admitted the charge and has been handed a four-match touchline ban and fined £1,400.

Coleman denied his charge, but the Regulatory Commission “found it to be proven,” and he has been suspended for two games.

Three Bristol City players, Joe Williams, Harry Cornick and Ross McCrorie, were also charged, and all three received a three-game suspension.

In a statement, Millwall said: “The club accepts the sanctions imposed and has cooperated fully with The FA throughout the disciplinary process.”

The melee started after the final whistle when Bristol City captain Jason Knight shoved Alex Neil in the chest, after the Lions’ head coach had tried to shake hands with his opposite number, Gerhard Struber. Both coaches claimed after the game that they had tried to shake the other’s hand and had been ignored.
