Police Scotland has confirmed it is treating a taxi fire as “wilful” after a black cab was torched in Glasgow on Thursday (January 15). Emergency services were called to Stronend Street in Possilpark after they were alerted to the blaze at around 2.35pm.

Dramatic photos taken from the scene showed flames engulfing the vehicle, the Daily Record reports.

Smoke could be seen billowing out of the taxi’s windows in a plume which dwarfed surrounding buildings. The cab, which appeared to be parked at the side of the road, had scorch marks visible on its doors and roof as a result of the flames.

The vehicle’s windows had also been blown out or melted under the heat of the blaze.

Officers from Police Scotland have now confirmed they believe the fire was started deliberately. Their enquiries remain ongoing.

No injures have been reported as a result of the vehicle fire.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 2.35pm on Thursday, 15 January, 2026, we received a report of vehicle fire at Stronend Street, Possilpark.

“There were no reported injuries. The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
