Starbucks at Hamilton Palace Grounds remains closed today (January 17) after a vehicle fire significantly scorched its drive-thru in the early hours of this morning. Emergency services raced to the scene at the Starbucks branch at around 1.15am, and two people were hospitalised as a result of the blaze.

Dramatic footage of the fire shared with Glasgow Live showed huge flames tearing through the vehicle, with thick black smoke emerging from the car. Seconds into the video, there appears to be a small explosion as the flames continue to rise.

New photos of the aftermath show fire damage to the branch, with the area cordoned off with ‘danger’ tape. Part of the drive-thru lane’s scorched overhead cover also appears to be falling down as a result of the blaze.

The Starbucks branch has now confirmed that it will remain temporarily closed while fire damage is assessed, to ensure the store is safe before reopening.

It released a statement that read: “We’re aware of a vehicle fire in the drive‑thru lane at our Hamilton Palace Grounds store early this morning. Our thoughts are with the customers affected, and we can confirm no partners (employees) were harmed.

“The store is temporarily closed while we assess the damage and ensure it is safe to reopen. Customers can visit our nearby Hamilton Retail Park – Douglas Park store, which remains open from 6am to 10pm. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience.”
