Dramatic footage shows Edinburgh M9 drivers stuck in ‘standstill’ traffic as emergency services closed the major road. Around 7pm on Saturday, January 17, a massive queue of traffic was continuing to build with police, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics at the scene.
It comes after reports of a vehicle fire on the M9 near Newbridge. The inferno took place around 4.45pm.
Footage shows aggressive flames ripping through the vehicle with thick plumes of smoke shooting into the sky. Traffic Scotland later confirmed the M9 was closed westbound. Drivers were urged to “approach with caution”.

In fresh footage taken from the scene, the incident triggered huge tailbacks with some drivers and passengers standing outside their vehicles.
A large number of blue lights can be spotted from afar. Scottish Fire and Rescue previously confirmed they were in attendance.
A spokesperson told Edinburgh Live: “We were made aware at 4.46pm of a car fire on the M9 westbound. Two appliances were dispatched to the scene and we are still in attendance.”
A statement from Traffic Scotland reads: “The #M90 is CLOSED WESTBOUND at Jct 1 due to a road traffic incident.
“Drivers are advised to use caution on approach and expect delays. Police are in attendance and managing traffic.”
Police Scotland have been approached for further comment.
