Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw has shared details of three major upcoming storylines.
The last year has seen some big stories in the soap, with the limo crash, April’s time on the streets and Belle and Tom’s domestic abuse storyline being singled out for nominations at the upcoming British Soap Awards.
Shaw has promised more “exciting and gripping” drama to come, with Sarah Sugden’s baby storyline being a big focus.
Viewers have already seen Sarah express her desire to have a baby and discuss the option of IVF with Vanessa. But Shaw explained that this will be a long running story.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, Shaw said: “That’s going to be a big story for us over the next 12 months or so. There’s lots of twists and turns and it’s going to cause some big ruptures in the whole family.”

Bear Wolf will also be in the spotlight, with Shaw explaining: “The character of Bear, we’ve got a big storyline coming up for him.
“He’s going to go off screen for a little while, he’s going to go missing. And when he comes back, what you’ll see is a very different Bear in a really different situation.
“We’re all going to be watching and going ‘what the hell has happened here?’ That’s going to be really exciting.”

Finally, Aaron Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd will have a big year. Shaw said: “We’ve got big stuff with Aaron and Mackenzie coming up towards the end of summer and into autumn.
“We’ve got a big week of episodes planned there that’s going to be life changing for those two. We’ve still got that flashforward from the New Year, we’ve not forgotten about it, to pay off. That might happen then, we shall see…”
Shaw added: “We’re actually in the process of building a new set for that week. I’ve just read the first drafts of the scripts, and I have to say, they are some of the most exciting and gripping episodes I’ve read in a long time.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
