Tucked away amongst the towering skyscrapers of London, Mudchute Farm on the Isle of Dogs near Canary Wharf is a bustling farm home to over 100 animals and birds.

This urban farm, one of the largest inner-city farms in Europe, proudly houses an extensive collection of British rare breeds and holds the distinction of being the only Rare Breed Survival Trust approved conservation farm park in London.

But there’s more to this city sanctuary than first appears. It also hosts a petting zoo where you can get up close and personal with pigs, sheep, goats, llamas and other friendly creatures.

If you’d rather take a leisurely walk around the farm’s grounds, you’ll come across horses, cows and other larger animals.

For those eager to delve deeper into the farm’s operations, guided tours are on offer. A staff member will accompany you, offering insights into the livestock and landscape.

You’ll gain a better understanding of how the farm functions, have the chance to interact closely with some of the animals, and may even get to assist in feeding them.

The farm sticks to a daily routine, including feeding times at 9am and 3pm, allowing you to plan your visit accordingly.

Throughout the year, Mudchute Farm hosts a variety of seasonal events, such as a summer open day and celebrations for Easter, Halloween and Christmas.

During school holidays, the farm arranges activities for children, details of which are often shared via social media.

The farm is also home to a children’s nursery, after-school club and playgroup. Muddy Boots nursery, which caters for 76 youngsters aged from birth to five years old, takes great pride in its unique setting and underscores the significance of outdoor play for all their little charges.

When your tummy starts to rumble, Mudchute Kitchen stands ready to serve, dishing up hearty home-cooked meals prepared right on the premises. Renowned for their breakfast and brunch offerings, they also tempt with an array of cakes, sandwiches and beverages.

Mudchute Farm recommends allocating at least a couple of hours to fully savour all that the farm park has to offer, from the courtyard and farm to the stables and café. With no parking facilities, visitors are urged to opt for public transport or cycling.

Situated on Pier Street, Isle of Dogs, London E14 3HP, Mudchute Park and Farm remains closed on Mondays, but opens its doors from 9.30am-3.30pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays, the farm welcomes visitors a bit later, opening at 12.30pm, while over the weekend, it’s open between 9.30am and 4pm.
