A peacock called Dave has become a bit of a celebrity in a Leicestershire village after getting lost.

Alex Robinson kept Dave, along with his friends Glenda and Keneth, at her home in Claybrooke Magna, north west of Lutterworth.

The birds are free range and, since Alex bought them at Melton’s Fur and Feather auctions just over three years ago, they often go on adventures.

But they usually stick close to home and return after a while. But Dave is now living in Broughton Astley, about four miles away from Claybrooke Magna, while Glenda and Keneth are believed to be enjoying a break in the fields nearby.

Alex said: “They often go exploring, but about six weeks ago they went for a walk and I think Dave has got them all lost.

“First, we heard reports he had been seen in Frolesworth, and then he was seen in Leire. For the past two or three weeks, he’s been staying in Broughton Astley.

“He’s been in people’s gardens and around the Devitt Way shops. I’m getting lots of sightings – the whole of the village is talking about him.”

She’s heard that Glenda and Keneth are not far away, but Dave is the one getting all the social media attention – he even has his own diary on Facebook and a TikTok account, called Only Dave’s Fans.

There have been numerous sightings on Dave around the village

And lots of people have been mocking up funny photographs of Dave getting up to all sorts of things – including flying a plane, playing on a slide and going grocery shopping.

Alex said Dave would probably be happily surviving on worms, berries, and crops in fields during his adventure. But she has asked for anyone who gets the chance to trap him in their shed so she can retrieve him.

She said: “I obviously want to get him back home, but people seem to enjoy having him in Broughton Astley. And I think he’s having a brilliant time!”
