A man was threatened at knifepoint and had his mobile phone stolen in the city centre. At around 4am on January 17, Merseyside Police were called to reports of a robbery on Berry Street after a man was threatened with a kitchen knife and had his phone stolen.

The offender ran off with the phone which officers later tracked to an address in Wavertree using Find my iPhone and found two men. Raul Gheorghe, 21, of Altcar Avenue, Liverpool and Samuel Oaie, 18, of Bishopgate Street, Liverpool have been charged with handling stolen goods and robbery. They have both been remanded in custody and will appear at Liverpool Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Lee Egerton said: “We are determined to track down anyone who carries out robberies on our streets and make our city centre a safer place to visit.

“Merseyside Police’s Winter of Action, taking place between 1 December and 31 January 2026, is a major policing push to keep city centres safe during and beyond the festive season by tackling crime, reassuring communities, and ensuring our high streets are welcoming and safe for everyone.”
