There are some likely improvers lurking with Missy Mole of particular interest. However, there’s guesswork involved to make her case, and preference is for STAR VANTAGE, who should get a stronger pace to chase than last time at Haydock. Izzy’s Grey is second choice.
This can go to four-time course winner WELL EDUCATED, who shaped with more promise than his finishing position suggests when returning from a break in a valuable series final last month and is now well handicapped on some of last year’s form.
Handicap debutant Smokeringinthedark is the one with considerable potential, but both runs since his winning hurdle debut have been underwhelming, and it’s hard to know what to expect from him here. A bigger threat to the selection may come from Moon Chime.
There’s an element of guesswork involved with ARANTES NASCIMENTO in terms of trip and ground, but he may still have untapped potential, and he’s interesting on his first outing for Gemma Tutty. Feared most is recent course winner Danzart, with the reappearing Novello Lad and the Quinn-trained pair One More Dream and Sir Garfield also respected.
Chuti Manika (second choice) was arguably unlucky at Ripon on his reappearance and should make another bold bid, while Rogue Dancer arrives on a roll and could complete a hat-trick, but preference is for TRUST SERGEI, who receives lumps of weight all round. The selection has taken off recently and can follow up his Wolverhampton win if he translates his improvement to turf.
Preference is for dual C&D winner RUMBLE B, who went close behind an improver at Wetherby in March and remains feasibly treated off his revised mark. Another in-form 11yo Romeo Brown is respected on his step back up in trip, but the main threat could come from Killybegs Jet Lady, who was a clear second at Newcastle last month and is still unexposed as a staying handicapper.
Gregorians Star should play a part if building on his handicap debut at Kempton, while Our Lil (second choice) will find this easier than when contesting a Grade 3 handicap at Cheltenham. However, AMBASSADOR is a fascinating contender with his record over C&D reading 22117141. Not only is he 4lb lower than when winning here last July, he is 1lb lower than when winning this race last year.
