An Edinburgh mum says her teenage daughter is still reeling from the trauma of being attacked by a gang of girls months after the terrifying incident.

The mum’s 14-year-old daughter was jumped by four teens on September 28, 2025 near The Mansion in Gracemount. She claimed the girls hid in a hedge before emerging and subjecting her to the attack.

Horrifying footage of the incident was posted on social media, showing the group kicking the schoolgirl on the ground while she protected her face. Police have confirmed several youths were charged and a report will be submitted to the Children’s Administration.

The victim’s mum described the aftermath of the traumatic incident, saying her daughter has been “jumpy” ever since and “didn’t want to go to school”.

The 36-year-old told Edinburgh Live: “It was a shock. With my epilepsy, I never even watched the videos. It would have made me end up in the hospital because my epilepsy is really bad and it can be triggered by stress.

“She was really jumpy when she heard kids outside going to school and shouting in the street. She’s still so jumpy. It was horrible.

“She was a bubbly person and very cheery but [after the incident] she became quite grumpy. She was awfully quiet and she became very distant. She [used to] joke and wind you up. After, she just shut herself off and just wanted to be on her own. If anyone was in the door she would jump, it was a nightmare. She wouldn’t go to sleep and didn’t want to go to school.”

The mum also spoke out against bullying behaviour and hopes more young people can be kind to one another.

She continued: “I don’t like bullies, I think it’s wrong. I don’t think any child should be bullied.

“Two of the wee lady pals took her home. They chased the four lassies away and took her home. When she started going back to school, her pals would walk her to school and home from school everyday.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said at the time: “Four youths have been charged following an attack on a teenage girl in the Gracemount area of Edinburgh on Sunday, 28 September.

“We would like to reassure the public that violence will not be tolerated, and any report to the police will be fully investigated.”
