A runaway peacock that has been intriguing the people of a Leicestershire village with his antics is finally back home.
Dave, who belongs to Alex Robinson and often goes for short adventures away from their home in Claybrooke Magna, near Lutterworth, had been missing for more than six weeks.
There were numerous sightings of fearless Dave as he strutted around the streets of Frolesworth and Leire before spending the last couple of weeks in Broughton Astley.
The story of Dave has been captivating people on social media and Alex even set up The Dave Diary page on Facebook and a TikTok channel called Only Dave’s Fans to let people keep up to date with the many sightings.
People also enjoyed making AI images of Dave getting up to bizarre things like flying an aeroplane and visiting the supermarket. Yesterday he was found and collected by Alex and her boyfriend Kyle Dewis and is now back home.
Alex said: “A lady called and said, ‘I think I might have Dave the peacock in my garden’. I asked if she had a shed and she said she did have a garage so I suggested putting some food down for him and shut the door behind him.
“She called back and said she had contained him. I couldn’t believe it.
“Kyle and I went there with a crate to carry him in. We just put it down – without any food or anything – and he just waltzed in all by himself.
“I think he was a bit tired and knew we’d take him home.”

For the next few days, just in case, Dave is being kept in the large aviary at Alex and Kyle’s home. Alex said: “He’s doing alright.
“And as he was missing for so long, I’m really glad to have him back.
“He’s in the aviary now so he can’t go for a wander. He’s been trying to get out – I think he wants to go on another adventure.”
At the same time as Dave’s disappearance, two of Alex’s other birds, Keneth the peacock and Glenda the peahen, also followed him and have been spotted between Leire and Frolesworth, where they have been sticking to farm fields.
But Alex is hopeful they will also be home soon. She said: “There was a sighting of Keneth in Frolesworth, heading towards Claybrooke Magna, so hopefully he is on his way home.
“And hopefully Glenda isn’t far behind him.”
Commenting on the Dave Diary on Facebook, one woman said: “When you see him, thank him for the endless amount of entertainment he has given us all over the past few days – made the world a bit brighter for a change.”
Another said: “He is so beautiful! It has been lovely seeing all the joy on ‘Spotted Broughton’, rather than the normal doom and gloom.”
