Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have been up in Scotland this week promoting heritage traditions and all the ways in which they can connect communities (by visiting a textiles studio, a local pub and a curling ring with strong local links) – and while there, the future Queen had a moment of going rogue.
While out on a public visit in Falkirk, Kate made a beeline past her security team after spotting a well-wisher holding flowers – and looking a little gutted that she’d missed her chance of meeting the royals – as she and Prince William prepared to leave a tartan-weaving studio.
The Princess of Wales, 44, hurried over to thank the woman for the bouquet and even paused for a photo, with onlookers describing it as a genuinely sweet, heartfelt moment, albeit one that saw the royal ditch her security in an unexpected move.

The Princess broke from security and ran to greet a well-wisher
Royal walkabouts are usually tightly managed by the security team which sets the pace, steers the route and keep the star of the show inside a moving protective ‘bubble’, with clear sight lines and a small buffer from the crowd. So, Kate choosing to break free on a whim must’ve come as a shock to those managing her safety on the day!
Commenting on the sweet moment, one social media user added, “Perfect poise even while running in heels”.
It’s far from the only time Kate has strayed from the royal rulebook and done things her way: she’s previously introduced her husband simply as ‘William’ (minus any fancy schmancy titles), has indulged in the odd spot of PDA with the Prince and caused a flurry of interest when she affectionately kissed her father-in-law, King Charles, at a public event (the Duchess of Kent’s funeral).
Keep it up, Catherine!
