Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has provided injury updates on attacking trio Jaden Philogene, Marcelino Nunez and Chuba Akpom ahead of Saturday’s game at Sheffield United.
Philogene was forced off with a knee injury in the first half of last weekend’s 3-0 home win against Blackburn, Nunez was subbed with an ankle problem in Tuesday night’s 2-0 home victory against Bristol City, while Akpom sat out both of those games with a groin issue.

“None of them are available for the weekend,” said McKenna.
“Marcelino we’re still assessing. He had some scans yesterday and we’re still waiting for the full specialist report on his ankle.
“Jaden, as I said after the game, it’s not super serious. He’s got no chance for this weekend. Whether he’ll be available for the next block of games after that, we’ll have to wait and see.
“Chuba is still not training yet.”

Philogene suffered an MCL knee injury at Chelsea last April that ruled him out until the start of pre-season, while Nunez arrived at Ipswich with an ankle injury that sidelined him for almost a month.
Asked if the current injuries were reoccurrences of old ones, McKenna replied: “Jaden’s thankfully is not. It’s a similar mechanism, but it’s nowhere near as serious. It’s not on the same scale as that by any means.
“Marcelino got a heavy tackle on it which caused a roll. It’s not an uncommon injury. I’m pretty sure it’s a different ankle to the one at the start of the season, so it’s not an ongoing injury or anything like that.”

On whether he had any other fresh injury issues, McKenna said: “We had one little issue in training today that we’re going to have to make an assessment on over the next 24 hours.
“We’re generally still in a pretty good position, but it’s always frustrating when you get a few injuries in the same area of the pitch.”
