After the scorching temperatures experienced in the UK in recent days, the weather over the bank holiday weekend feels somewhat cooler. The current weather is set to continue over the coming days – but it is set to warm up again towards the end of the week.

However it’s looking unlikely that we’ll experience the highs recorded over the past few days. On Thursday temperatures peaked at 29.3C at Kew Gardens in west London, making it the hottest day of the year so far, according to the Met Office.

Data from the Met Office revealed that the UK saw the sunniest April since records began in 1910. Provisional figures showed 47 per cent more sunshine hours in April than the long-term meteorological average.

Temperatures were also 1.7C above average, making it the UK’s third warmest April since records began in 1884. Over the last week Greater Manchester basked in glorious sunshine, with many areas reaching the mid-20s.

In comparison, May is kicking off with a much cooler and cloudier start. According to the latest Met Office forecasts for Greater Manchester Sunday will be cloudy with sunny intervals with highs of just 13C, although it will feel more like 10C.

Bank Holiday Monday will be slightly warmer with highs of 15C and sunny intervals, while the temperature will creep up to 17C on Tuesday.

Forecasting for the North West for Monday to Wednesday, the Met Office said: “Largely dry through the bank holiday weekend with temperatures returning closer to average. Sunny intervals and perhaps an odd shower on Monday. Breezier at first, but winds easing on Tuesday.”

In Greater Manchester the mercury is set to climb upwards towards the end of the week with sunny intervals and highs of 18C predicted for Friday.

But we can look forward to a day of sunshine once again next Saturday with sunny spells expected and highs of 19C.
