Bright Osayi-Samuel has re-joined Birmingham City training and is available for Saturday’s clash against Stoke City.

The right-back has missed Blues’ last seven matches due to his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.

The Super Eagles finished third in the tournament and Osayi-Samuel was a fixture in their line-up.

There was some concern online after Osayi-Samuel was substituted during Nigeria’s third place play-off victory over Egypt with an injury, but he has since recovered and resumed training with his club.

“He is available,” said Blues manager Chris Davies. “There was a little something there but we’ve had him checked out and he’s trained today.

“He’s back, which is great news, and congratulations to him for his performances and Nigeria’s in the tournament, although they couldn’t go on to win it they certainly did the country proud.”

Blues will still be without Jack Robinson, Demarai Gray and Ethan Laird against Stoke – who have injury issues of their own.

The trio could return for Blues next month but left-back Alex Cochrane won’t make a comeback until the latter stages of the season.

Davies commented: “I would group Demarai, Jack and Ethan in terms of a timeline together. We’re still a good few weeks away from them actually training, then once they get training they need to build a little bit.

“They all have different injuries but I think they’ll be returning to training at a similar time, but we’re talking well into February.”
