Former PGA Tour star Matthew Wolff was disqualified from the Masters in 2021 after completing an incorrect scorecard at Augusta, but he’s bounced back in the years since with LIV

LIV Golf star Matthew Wolff might not look back on his three appearances at the Masters affectionately. The first major of the year is set to get underway on Thursday, but Wolff is not part of the field.
The 25-year-old failed to play all 72 holes in his trio of trips to Augusta. Most famously, he was disqualified by tournament officials at the Masters after submitting an incorrect scorecard in 2021.
In 2020, Wolff wowed crowds as he finished T4 at the PGA Championship and was runner-up at the US Open later that same year. But luck wasn’t on his side during his first stab at the Masters, where he failed to make the cut.
When Wolff returned the following year, his performances put him on course for a similar exit. However, a scorecard error and subsequent disqualification led to his early departure instead.
Wolff’s hopes for a turnaround were dashed early on when he racked up a quadruple bogey at the first hole. In hindsight, it foreshadowed a disappointing day for the rising prospect.
Even though Wolff wrapped up what he thought was a seven-over round and sat eight shots away from making the cut, a misrecorded score on the 17th hole led to his disqualification at Augusta.

Tournament officials released a statement: “Following his second round, Matthew Wolff returned a scorecard with a hole score lower than he actually made on hole 17. He was subsequently disqualified under Rule 3.3b(3).”
Former world number 12 Wolff has earned over £11.8million in prize money since switching to LIV Golf. During his time with the PGA, Wolff won his only professional title at the 2019 3M Open, earning £5.94m on the tour in total.
In his first season with LIV, Wolff finished sixth in the standings. However, his decision to link up with Brooks Koepka at Smash GC in 2023 proved ill-fated.
A public fallout with Koepka led to Wolff being traded for Talor Gooch and joining the RangeGoats under the guidance of Bubba Watson. Wolff’s form improved last season, as he rose nine places in the standings to 18th.

It was a fresh start for Wolff, who expressed joy at the move. “I know I’ve got a lot of skill and a lot of talent. For me, the main thing is just mentally making sure that I’m in a good spot, I’m enjoying where I’m at and I want to be out there,” he said.
“Being on a team with Bubba, I think he’ll definitely be able to help me out with that aspect. But more than anything, just kind of getting me in a position where I feel like I can thrive and be myself. I really feel like it’s a good fit here.”
Wolff made his last appearance at a major in 2022. Meanwhile, he is 43rd in the LIV standings this season and finished 42nd at LIV Golf Miami last week.
