Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Andrew Scarborough has responded to the fan theories that his recently-returned character Graham Foster could rekindle his romance with Rhona Goskirk once he comes back to the village full-time next week.

Graham was thought dead for the last six years, but Rhona has recently been in touch with him and he offered to help her deal with the April Windsor/Ray Walters situation. Graham was one of the suspects in the frame for Ray’s murder – but it was revealed this week that Bear Wolf was the one to kill him.

With Graham officially back on our screens now, and spending time with former flame Rhona, could it lead to them reconnecting romantically behind Marlon Dingle’s back?

“Who knows?” Scarborough said, adding: “Obviously she would have to forgive him first. Plus her relationship with Marlon is very strong.

“But Graham did love her. He has been away, and probably has lived quite a lonely life, because he’d have had to go from country to country doing his various jobs that he does freelance.

“So I would imagine he probably still hankers after her and probably is still in love with her. Watch the space.”

He also said that he hopes Graham continues to be mysterious, especially “because of what he’s done for his living”, and teased how they are the kind of things that have a habit of catching up with people…

Reflecting on what it’s like on the soap now compared to during his previous stint, the actor said: “I think it’s even better. I love it. The atmosphere is great.”

“It was great when I first landed and it’s great now I’ve landed again,” he continued. “It’s even better. There’s changes like maybe the pace has got quicker.

“Or maybe it’s because I’m a bit older and my brain’s still adjusting to be agile enough to work that quick. We all walk around with a small novel in our hands every week.

“It is funny when they say, ‘Oh, I’ve got Friday off or whatever, you go, well, I haven’t really got it off. I’m learning lines. but I love all that anyway.

“I love trying to sharpen my brain up as if you’ve learnt it well you can then bring it in and play and bounce things around. After a full day’s work it really feels like you’ve really achieved something.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX and YouTube.
