In another major sign of rising tension between India and Pakistan, the Pakistani government has reportedly banned the online streaming of the
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season on local digital platforms. According to Pakistani media outlets, the move came late Friday night and applies to all websites and apps in Pakistan that were previously showing IPL matches.
Pakistan bans IPL 2025 streaming, suggest reports
This decision comes as a response to India’s earlier move to stop broadcasting the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir. On 24 April, Indian streaming platform FanCode, which held the official rights to show PSL matches in India, announced that it would stop streaming the tournament with immediate effect.
The terror attack in Pahalgam claimed more than 25 innocent lives of Indian tourists who had gone to Kashmir to enjoy a vacation. In the days that followed, India not only cut off PSL broadcasts but also blocked several social media accounts of prominent Pakistani cricketers, including that of Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi.

Reacting to this, Pakistan has reportedly decided to now ban the IPL streaming in their country, calling it a direct response to India’s digital restrictions. At this point, it is unclear how long these bans will last or whether there is really a ban as claimed by some Pakistani media outlets.
BCCI likely to boycott Pakistan in ICC and ACC events
After the Pahalgam terror attack, the relationship between India and Pakistan worsened. The Indian government took some immediate actions in response to the attack by suspending the Indus Water Treaty and asking all Pakistani nationals to leave India before 1st May. India also banned some Pakistani YouTube channels including those belonging to former cricketers.
There are reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may completely cut off ties with Pakistan by not playing them even in ICC and ACC tournaments. The 2025 Asia Cup, which was scheduled to be hosted by India, may be called off due to the strained relationship following the recent attack.
