The European Union Delegation to Afghanistan says it has allocated nearly €20 million to the World Food Programme (WFP) to support child nutrition.

In a statement issued on Saturday, January 24, the delegation said the funds have been earmarked for the implementation of school-based child nutrition programs.

The European Union added that it has also invested an additional €25 million through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to ensure that schools remain safe environments for learning.

According to the delegation, this investment will strengthen a range of services, from support for teachers to water, sanitation, and hygiene services, as well as children’s education.

The European Union has also allocated €6 million to the organization “Child Protection” to support children.

The delegation further stated: “In cooperation with UNESCO and with a budget of €4.7 million, the European Union will provide literacy and technical and vocational skills to 7,500 adolescents and adults in five provinces.”

The European Union emphasized that it supports access to quality education in Afghanistan.
