Tributes have poured in for Dr. Grace Molloy who tragically died in Galway, Ireland, on Wednesday

Tributes have poured in for a “kind and helpful” young doctor who tragically died on Wednesday.
Dr. Grace Molloy, from Riddlesford in Bray, was working as an intern in University Hospital Galway in Galway, Ireland. She passed away on Wednesday at Beaumont Hospital “following an accident”, according to a notice shared on RIP.ie.
“Grace will be sadly missed by her loving mother Mary (McHugh) and brother Shane,” the notice states. “Lovingly remembered by her aunts and uncles, Geraldine and Tom Lunney, John and Anne McHugh, Conor and Maureen McHugh, Maureen Molloy, Padraic and Sabina Molloy, Vincent and Helen Molloy, John Joe and Julie Molloy, Geraldine and Martin Walsh, her adoring cousins and a wide circle of friends, neighbours and colleagues.”
Dr Molloy graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) last summer with a Bachelor of Medicine and began interning at University Hospital Galway (UHG) in June, where she made a huge impression on her patients and colleagues, GalwayBeo reports.

The young doctor’s UHG co-workers have remembered her as “a beautiful young lady, inside and out”. In a message shared online, a nurse at UHG said: “I’m so sorry to hear the news of Grace’s passing. I got the pleasure of knowing Grace working on St Gerard’s in UHG. I always loved having a chat and laugh with her in the office.
“She was always so kind, helpful and friendly to everyone she met. The first day I met her she was on call for the Saturday, I knew instantly I would get on well with her. I’m grateful to have gotten to know her over the three months she spent working on Gerard’s. My thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this time.”
Another of her colleagues said: “My deepest condolences to Mary, Shane, extended family and friends. I had the privilege of working with Grace on her very first day as an intern. A beautiful young lady, inside and out, deeply respected by her colleagues, trusted and loved by her patients. Rest in peace, Grace.”
While a third colleague said: “My sincerest condolences to Mary, Shane, extended family and friends and all your extended medical colleagues and friends. Grace was an intern on the ward where I worked. A very sincere young lady that gave her all to her patient’s, she was loved by all her patient’s and colleagues. Fly high with the angels Grace May your very gentle soul rest in peace.”
A classmate of Dr Molloy’s at UCD said: “Sincerest condolences to the extended Molloy and McHugh families and to all of Grace’s friends and colleagues on this unimaginable tragedy. Great fun and clearly loved being part of the UCD class of 2025.”
A close friend said: “Grace, Still in utter disbelief. One of the happiest, funniest, smartest and fun-loving people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Such a massive part of my school life was memories in almost all my classes with Grace, laughing our heads off over the silliest of things. She lit up every room she was in. Her laugh was so contagious. To all of Graces close friends and family, I’m so so sorry…sending hugs to each and every one of you Rest in Peace beautiful girl.”
One of Dr Molloy’s classmates from secondary school added: “Grace was truly one of the kindest people I knew during secondary school. Every memory I have with her is filled with positivity and happiness. Her warmth, bubbly personality, and beautiful soul always brightened the lives of those around her.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have grown up with her and shared so many joyful moments. My heart aches for her family and her close friends, and I want to extend my deepest condolences. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with them during this profoundly difficult time. Grace’s memory will forever remain in my heart.”
Dr Molloy’s funeral Mass will be held at 10.30am on Thursday (January 29) in the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Putland Road, Bray followed by burial in Redford Cemetery, Blacklion, Greystones. Her family have said donations, if desired, can be made to Beaumont Hospital Foundation and Organ Donation Ireland.
