The Rangers Review understands that illness has kept the 21-year-old out of contention, with Bjoan Miovski leading the line in his place.

Chermiti, who scored a double in the new year Old Firm and has improved in recent weeks, started during a 1-0 win over Ludogorets in midweek. It was the first Europa League win Rangers have managed this season.

However, there’s no involvement from the Portuguese Under-21 attacker today as he seeks to return to full fitness ahead of a double header of fixtures against Porto and Hibs next week.

Andreas Skov Olsen makes his full debut against Dundee, while Tochi Chukwuani, who came off the bench last week against Annan, is also in from the start.

Meanwhile, Borna Barisic reckons he should have quit Rangers after the Europa League Final in 2022, but stayed because he loved the club.

And, ahead of his first competitive game for 11 months, the Croatian defender admitted he had nothing but good memories from his time at Ibrox.

Barisic has returned to his first club in his homeland, Osijek and their game against Dinamo Zagreb will be his first match since he suffered a serious knee injury on loan at La Liga side Leganes from Trabzonspor.

And the 33-year-old admits he probably overstayed his welcome in Glasgow.

He said: “Moving to Rangers in 2018 was probably the biggest moment of my career.

Steven Gerrard called me right away after we played Rangers in Europe and asked me if I wanted to come. I accepted even though I had an even better offer financially at the time.

“But I felt that it was a project and a story for me. A special club, you only feel its greatness when you go there.

“Every weekend, when we play at home, there are 52,000 people in the stands. Wherever we go on away trips, there’s a lot too.

“In Glasgow, I gained the experience of a lifetime with Gerrard and the other coaches. That’s where I learned the most and grew from a boy into a man.

“When you go to a club like that, you have to be at the top level all the time to survive, because new players are constantly coming in. In six years, I won the championship, I also played in the Europa League Final.

“I really enjoyed it there. There were difficult moments, of course, but overall I was very happy. I truly love that club and it will always be in my heart.”
