A US Air Force F15 Eagle can be seen flying over Thirlmere Reservoir, near Ambleside, in footage posted yesterday.
The aircraft can record speeds up to Mach 2.5, or 1,918 miles per hour.
It is believed that an increase in US fighter jets flying through the Lake District is due to the aircraft being stationed at British RAF bases.
The move is due to geopolitical uncertainty, brought about by US President Donald Trump’s intervention in Venezuela and his designs on Greenland.
However, Lake District valleys have always been a playground for US and UK pilots, with military aircraft regularly seen roaring over Crummock, Buttermere and Bassenthwaite.
