A number of schools across Northern Ireland have announced closures ahead of an amber weather warning for wind due to come into force in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The first named storm of the year for Northern Ireland, Storm Chandra, will hit the region on Tuesday with warnings for rain and wind in place until Wednesday.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for rain and wind from 00:01 to 23:59 across all counties with an Amber wind warning in place from 5am – 9pm in counties Antrim, Down and Derry.

We’re likely to see delays and cancellations to public transport, flights and ferries. There is a potential for flooding and some local power cuts as well.

It’s after The Met Office said we can expect another 10 days of rain according, after a wetter January than usual.
