Birmingham City find themselves in another quandary at left-back in the final days of the transfer window.
Kai Wagner was signed from Philadelphia Union three weeks ago to finally solve a shortage that had bugged Chris Davies for the best part of 18 months.
However, the German has been thrown in at the deep end by Davies due to an injury to the previously ever-present Alex Cochrane, meaning once more Blues are down to one fit left-back.

Cochrane isn’t expected back until April due to an ankle injury which rules him out of the run-in and presents Davies with a dilemma.
“With Alex, my understanding is that the last month of the season is when we can think of him, so there’s uncertainty there,” admitted Davies.
“Kai has come in and done great, and looked really strong. It’s something we will discuss in the next few days whether we feel there’s something that needs to be done or whether we have got enough.”
Lee Buchanan recently returned to light training after a knee injury which forced him to miss the whole of 2025.
Buchanan is a capable Championship full-back on his day and could be registered in Blues’ EFL squad if Davies thinks he has something to offer between now and May.
Davies commented: “It’s been such a long injury that you’ve got to be cautious with that but we hope Lee can get up to speed. He would need a few under-21s games to build.”
There are other options for Davies, albeit not natural ones. Jack Robinson has played at left-back, while Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ethan Laird – who is set to return before Cochrane – can do a job there.
