Birmingham police officers scanned thousands of cars and fined dozens as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal vehicles in the city.

Cars were also seized by officers from Washwood Heath Police team during a joint operation with the DVLA in Alum Rock on Friday, May 2.

A whopping 2,512 vehicles were checked as part of the crackdown, which covered College Road, Raymond Road and surrounding roads in Alum Rock and Saltley.

Pictures from the patrol, shared on Friday evening, showed 10 vehicles had been seized and 88 fines issued.

Driving without valid car tax is illegal, unless you are driving it to a pre-booked MOT test.

Car crime continues to blight neighbourhoods across Birmingham, with certain areas becoming hotspots for dumped, untaxed motors.

Vehicle theft and ‘car cannibalism’ is also a major concern in the city, with certain brands like Ford Fiestas being targeted for parts.

A Washwood Heath Police spokesperson took to, formerly Twitter, on May 2 and said: “We conducted an operation with the DVLA to seize vehicles with no tax. And the results?

“In a one hour period we had: 2512 vehicles checked 88 fines issued 10 vehicles seized.

“More of these ops to come! Tax it or lose it.”

Pictures from the patrol showed cars including a Jaguar, Peugeot, Nissan Qashqai, Vauxhall Zafira and BMW were all removed from the roads in just one hour.
