A boy, 14, has been arrested on suspicion of arson, after fire crews were called to tame a blazing school minibus in Sheffield.
Fire crews were called to Holgate Meadows School in Parson Cross yesterday afternoon (January 26) after reports of a burning school bus. Firefighters “quickly” extinguished the flames, explaining that they believed the fire had been “started deliberately”.
No injuries were reported by South Yorkshire Police have since confirmed that a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of arson and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
A spokesperson from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters from Elm Lane station were called out to a minibus on fire at Lindsay Road, Sheffield at 2.53pm (26.01.26). Luckily, there were no casualties. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson from South Yorkshire Police confirmed the arrest: “At 2.52pm yesterday (Monday, January 26), police were called to reports of a minibus on fire on Lindsay Road in Sheffield. Officers alongside the fire service attended and the fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.
“A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of arson and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.”
