Lucas Hay received a mysterious lifeline on Hollyoaks as he acclimatised to life in prison amid the storyline involving his father, Ste. With an unknown figure seemingly trying to help him, could Lucas get out?

The troubled teenager has been behind bars ever since he attempted to take Ste hostage, with the developments being part of the child-to-parent abuse storyline that was developed by the Channel 4 soap last year.

After various twists and turns, Lucas discovered that Ste had slept with his ex-boyfriend Dillon, and swore revenge on his father for his betrayal. After teasing a “farewell chat”, Lucas attempted to kill Ste but was stopped in the nick of time.

Tonight’s episode began with Leela asking why Ste was at work given the dramatic incident, though he explained that he wanted to spend as much time out of the house as possible for the fear that he would be reminded of the situation.

He also explained that he had to let Lucas “go” as he would merely be manipulated into forgiving his son, though Leela expressed hope that they could patch things up provided the teenager pleaded guilty to his crimes.

Lucas, meanwhile, received a letter while in prison, with the writer saying that they could help the inmate with his “situation”. The only issue for Lucas, however, was that he didn’t know who had sent the letter.

Later on, Dillon arrived in prison to speak with his ex-boyfriend, though he stressed that he wasn’t there to “forgive” Lucas but rather make him “face” all the things that he had done. If he didn’t write the note, then who did?

Elsewhere on the soap, it has recently been confirmed that John Paul McQueen will have a new love interest before his impending exit. After an initial frosty meeting with newcomer Smithy, John Paul takes a shine to the police officer.

It may not be good news, however, with Smithy also confirmed to be involved in the disturbing storyline regarding Prince. With John Paul’s departure looming and Smithy’s secretive nature, what could happen between the pair?
