A man was seriously injured following an alleged attack on the M4.
The motorway was closed in both directions on Tuesday afternoon (January 27) following reports that a man had been seriously attacked.
It was reported that the victim was in the passenger seat of a stationary car on the westbound motorway hard shoulder between junctions 16 and 17.
Another male was believed to have left the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Wiltshire Police say his wounds are not thought to be life-changing.
A 40-year-old man, thought to be the registered owner of the vehicle, was located nearby and was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and drink driving.
He has been taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries, and will then be questioned, for the force said.
The M4 has since reopened.
