The U.S. women’s national team target another win after starting 2026 on a high, hoping to do so this time with a group of rising talents for Tuesday’s clash against Chile.
Emma Hayes’ team opened up the new year with a 6-0 win against Paraguay on Saturday, five of the goals coming after the halftime break after an up-and-down first half. Ally Sentnor scored a 10-minute brace while Trinity Rodman was on the scoresheet in her first international match in nine months. Players who are newer to the fray also excelled, too – NWSL rookie of the year nominee Reilyn Turner scored the game’s opening goal in her first cap.
Much as she has over the course of her year-plus in charge of the USWNT, Hayes will continue to embrace a spirit of experimentation and fully rotate her starters against Chile in Santa Barbara. The reasoning is two-fold – while Hayes expands her knowledge with the wider player pool, she is also carefully managing minutes since the NWSL-heavy roster is in the early stages of their preseasons.
