Liverpool manager Arne Slot has seen his side decline rapidly since their 2024/25 Premier League title success.

With a £400m-plus summer transfer spend under their belt, there was likely an expectation from many that the Reds would go back-to-back this year.

However, with over half the season gone, Jamie Carragher is fearing for Liverpool, who dropped out of the Champions League places following a 3-2 defeat to an out-of-form Bournemouth on Saturday.

In turn, questions around Slot remain, with David Ornstein now sharing what he keeps hearing about the Dutchman.

When Liverpool could discuss the future of Arne Slot

Speaking to Sky Sports’ YouTube this week, the journalist was asked about Slot.

While some fans may want Liverpool to change managers as soon as possible, Ornstein suggested a review of the situation is likely to take place in the summer.

He said: “Every time you make checks on this [Slot’s situation], you’re told nothing before the summer. So, clearly the summer, like we see at many clubs, is a time for review and it’ll be fascinating to see which way Liverpool and other teams go at that point.”

Ornstein then added: “Naturally, if results deteriorate to an alarming degree, I presume the hierarchy at any club, even though they are backing their head coach, will have to think about it. But I think the intention at Liverpool is to back him.”

Who could replace Arne Slot

The obvious replacement given his connection to the club and success as a manager is likely Xabi Alonso.

Alonso is now out of work following his Real Madrid exit earlier this month.

Elsewhere, some fans have spoken about Steven Gerrard returning to Liverpool on an interim basis for the remainder of 2025/26, similar to what Michael Carrick is doing at Manchester United.

Meanwhile, RTK suggested Liverpool may wish to hire a manager similar to Jurgen Klopp who is currently out of work.
