Seven new Aldi supermarkets are to open in Glasgow city and nearby towns this year, as the budget supermarket aims to launch 40 sites across the UK in 2026.

The new shops come as part of the supermarket chain’s £370million investment scheme, which will see Aldi branches open in Cathcart, Springburn and Glasgow Fort, the Daily Express reports.

New stores slightly further afield include Clarkston, Blantyre, Newhouse and Dumbarton, which are also due to open this year.

This initiative forms part of the budget supermarket’s hefty £1.6 billion two-year investment plan, unveiled last year, aimed at propelling the chain towards its long-term objective of operating 1,500 stores nationwide. This follows a busy schedule of openings in 2025, when Aldi introduced several new outlets.

Giles Hurley, Aldi’s UK and Ireland Chief Executive, stated that the retailer remains committed to expanding access to low-cost groceries, adding that its “unwavering commitment is to make high‑quality, affordable groceries accessible to everybody.

“But we recognise that there are still areas without an Aldi store, so our expansion plans for 2026 are designed to address some of these gaps as we work towards our long-term goal of 1,500 UK stores. We’ve always believed that access to high-quality affordable food is a right, not a privilege, and that’s why it’s our mission to make this a reality for customers up and down the UK.”
