A group of knitters in Holbeck have been busy knitting blanket squares for babies.

The group meet every Thursday afternoon at Cleveleys Court community room and have produced dozens of squares, plus some jackets, gloves and hats since they started last summer.

The items are being given to Leeds Baby Bank who give pre-loved items of clothing, and equipment as well as nappies and formula to families experiencing poverty.

“It’s a social thing as much as anything” says Denise Gregson, “we often natter more than we knit!”

Everyone is welcome whether they are experienced knitters or not and the group are keen expand the social side of the ‘Thursday Club’.

One member, Barbara, has been knitting since she can remember and is happy to teach the basics or more complex stitching such as Cable and Arran styles.

The group are now looking for funding to keep going as they have paid for everything themselves so far and they would like to expand their activities to have a pop-up café and other social activities and crafts.
