- Kate Middleton had a busy day on January 27, undertaking multiple royal engagements, including a visit to Wakefield Trinity Rugby Club.
- While there, the Princess of Wales shared that her daughter Princess Charlotte isn’t taking part in rugby at school.
- That said, she’ll play a game in the backyard with her family, the future queen said at a different rugby-related engagement earlier this month.
Just like her mother Kate Middleton, there’s not a sport that the athletic Princess Charlotte can’t master. There is, however, one sport she’s not currently playing at school—rugby, the Princess of Wales shared during an outing earlier this week.

While visiting Wakefield Trinity Rugby Club on January 27—less than two weeks after Kate threw a reception for England’s women’s rugby team at Windsor Castle to celebrate their recent World Cup win—the Princess of Wales was asked if her 10-year-old daughter plays sports.
“She does loads of sports, but not much rugby yet,” Kate replied (per People). “It’s so difficult playing rugby in school.” When asked about what sports Kate played, she responded that she took part in “loads of netball” when she was in school, but didn’t play rugby or football. “Totally different skill set, isn’t it?” she said.
“There’s not many other sports like that where you can actually say contact is a good thing,” Kate added of rugby.

Nigel Gillingham, the president of the Rugby Football Union, previously said that Charlotte “is very much in Kate’s mold, competitive as well.” While she may not be into rugby (yet!), Charlotte plays soccer, loves gymnastics, runs track, and dances—both ballet and tap.
Though Charlotte isn’t playing organized rugby, Kate added that she will join in “at home with the family,” though “she isn’t yet at school,” Kate said at the aforementioned reception at Windsor Castle for England’s women’s rugby team on January 15 (per The Daily Mail). “Rugby is so accessible. [Prince] Louis is playing touch rugby, and it’s such a great game.”

Speaking about her son Prince George at the same event, the Princess of Wales added, “Actually, they shouldn’t necessarily need to pigeonhole boys and girls in particular sports too early. Obviously as they get physically stronger—George now, if we play at home, I do not want to get tackled by George!”
“But, up to a certain age, I think it’s great,” Kate continued.

Charlotte is “clearly sporty like her mother,” a source told People. “A bit of a mini-me.” Another added that the 10-year-old “is quite a strong character, almost wise beyond her years.”

On the soccer field, Charlotte “is known for her grace and sportsmanship—often seen congratulating players on the opposing team,” the outlet reported. Kate has said in the past that her only daughter “spends most of her time upside down doing handstands and cartwheels,” and a source said of Charlotte that she is “a natural and has taken to royal events like a duck to water.”
