Manchester United have been flying high since Michael Carrick took the reins as interim manager. The new man at the helm secured impressive victories against both Manchester City and Arsenal in his first two games in charge – and now he’s looking to make it a hat-trick this weekend.

Next up for the Red Devils is a match against Fulham on Sunday, before transfer deadline day arrives on Monday. A flurry of activity is anticipated across the top-flight as clubs aim to finalise their squads ahead of the season’s final stretch.

The situation is no different at Old Trafford, where there have been few arrivals or departures so far this month. One certainty is that Casemiro will not be playing for United next season, following confirmation of his departure last week.

Cole Palmer update

Despite reports suggesting that Cole Palmer is dissatisfied in London and would welcome a move to Manchester United, it now seems that such a switch will not be happening – either now or in the summer.

As reported earlier today by the Mirror, United officials recognise that Palmer is beyond their budget. After spending £135m on Bryan Mbeumo and Mathues Cunha in the summer, the attacking midfield position is not viewed as a priority.

United’s priority is instead to secure a world-class defensive midfielder to replace the departing Casemiro. Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba represent solid Premier League options, though all carry hefty price tags.

‘Fee agreed’ for United target

Hoffenheim have agreed a fee to sign reported Manchester United target Michael Noonan from Shamrock Rovers. Numerous Premier League clubs were said to be pursuing the teenager following his impressive performances at the U17 World Cup, with United among them.

Beyond his international achievements, he netted a memorable goal for Rovers against Molde in the Europa Conference League, becoming the youngest player to score in the competition.

Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho serve as excellent examples of young players who have flourished in the Bundesliga, a league famous for its physical intensity.

The offer for Noonan is reportedly £1.5m, according to the Irish Examiner, with only personal terms and the 17-year-old’s approval remaining to finalise the transfer. Celtic are also strong admirers of Noonan but have likewise missed out despite submitting their own bid.
