Win £250,000 With Betmgm’s Golden Goals Maiden Stakes (5.25 Newcastle, Saturday)
What’s the story?
A well-bred daughter by the in-form Ghaiyyath is set to make her debut at Newcastle on Saturday. Even with all the Grade 1 jumps action going on, it would be worth tuning in to see how Aurelune fares.
How is she bred?
The three-year-old was bred by Suroben Ltd and Summerhill Bloodstock and she sold to Rabbah Bloodstock for 155,000gns at Tattersalls Book 1 in 2024.
She is the 11th foal out of the unraced Cape Cross mare Queen Of Carthage, a daughter of Prix de l’Opera winner Satwa Queen and a half-sister to Listed scorer Important Time. That Oasis Dream mare is the dam of Godolphin’s globetrotting multiple Group/Grade 1 winner Nations Pride.
Aurelune is a half-sister to Lucky Vega, whose finest hour came when landing the Phoenix Stakes for Jessica Harrington in 2020. The son of Lope De Vega also placed in the Middle Park, 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes before his retirement to stud. Standing at the Irish National Stud, Lucky Vega also shuttles to Yulong in Australia and he is responsible for two Group scorers from four individual black-type winners so far.
Who does she face?
The Richard Fahey-trained filly’s rivals include Wathnan Racing’s twice raced and placed Cerelia. The daughter of Wootton Bassett is out of an Oasis Dream half-sister to Prix Marcel Boussac and Saint-Alary heroine Silasol. The famed Wertheimer family also includes Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Solemia.
Majestic Dane is a Showcasing half-brother to the Group 3-placed juvenile Magic Mild, while Henry Halflight is a Dawn Approach half-brother to two-time Listed winner Paene Magnus.
