King Felipe of Spain turns 58 today, and while the father of two has always been among the most suave of monarchs, could it be that he’s getting more handsome as the years go by? Whether he’s hosting a state dinner with his wife, the ever-elegant Queen Letizia, or watching on proudly as his daughters, Princess Elenor and Infanta Sofia, continue to evolve into their royal roles, one thing is certain: King Felipe will always be the best-dressed man in the room.

‘It is very rare to see this level of tailoring today, evewn among the rich,’ said mesnwear journalist Derek guy about King Felipe’s suit at Wimbledon 2023

Of course, this is not necessarily news to royal watchers, who have long known that the secret to the King’s success is his sharp-cut suits (and, perhaps, his 6’6″ frame). But it wasn’t until Wimbledon 2023 that Felipe’s fits went viral on social media, thanks to a thread about the King’s exacting approach to tailoring, written by menswear journalist Derek Guy. ‘It is very rare to see this level of tailoring today, even among the rich,’ Guy wrote. Details not to be missed include the way the collar always hugs the neck and the proportion of the lapels.

Good suits have been a consistent trend for the Spanish King, who managed to steal the show in a navy number and a contrasting plum tie when he joined President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron for a lunch at the Elysee Palace on 13 January – beating the French, some might say, at their own game.
