Birmingham City are turning back the clock with their new Penguin kit, celebrating 150 years of football in the West Midlands with a look that reimagines their defining 1970s era.
Reimagining one of the club’s most iconic designs, the Penguin kit arrives in a distinctive mix of retro-inspired blue and off-white, finished with a central strip that gives the shirt its name – ‘the Penguin’.
The shirt became a staple of football at St Andrew’s in the 1970s, worn by club heroes and cultural icons that played a key role in keeping Birmingham in the top-flight. Instantly recognisable and uniquely Blues, the design represents an era defined by resilience and loyalty.
The nation’s first ever £1m player in Trevor Francis and legendary striker Bob Latchford were just two of the names that became synonymous with this design and now it will be sported on the field by the likes of Demarai Gray, Jay Stansfield and Tomoki Iwata.
The Penguin kit comes as part of the club’s 150th anniversary celebration, reflecting on key moments in the club’s history while welcoming back an iconic symbol of club culture.
With its tuxedo-like stripe and heritage-inspired blue sleeves, the shirt positions Birmingham’s iconic crest in the centre alongside Nike’s unmissable white swoosh. The collection is complemented by a matching drill top and pre-match walkout jacket, featuring the same classic colourway.
The Special Edition ‘Penguin’ fourth kit will debut on 15 February when Birmingham take on Leeds in the Emirates FA Cup. Supporters can pick up their own jersey from February 5 via Birmingham City’s official channels.
