The force has issued a warning to bike owners following a rise in thefts of vehicles and break-ins to sheds and garages, particularly involving motorbikes.
A common theme reported by police was the belief that people think their bikes are safe because “people don’t know it’s there”.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Unfortunately, that simply isn’t the case.
“Offenders do know, and they actively look for easy opportunities.
“In most cases, bikes are being left with no security at all or only a steering lock, which can be overcome in seconds.
“We strongly encourage bike owners to use multiple layers of security.
“Taking a few extra minutes to properly secure your bike can be the difference between still owning it tomorrow – or seeing it on our page after recovery.
“Stay alert, stay secure, and please continue to report anything suspicious.”
The force released a list of security advice, which includes secure sheds as well as the use of CCTV and security lighting.
