Rhys Bennett has left Man United after 16 years with the club

Manchester United academy players have responded to Rhys Bennett’s farewell message after 16 years at the club, with the defender admitting he’s ready to kick on following his departure. Bennett has joined League Two side Fleetwood Town after spending last season on loan at the club’s Highbury home.

The 22‑year‑old spent two loan spells at Fleetwood last season, making 38 appearances and scoring twice. He also completed a six‑month loan stint with Stockport County in 2024.

Bennett said upon completing his move to Fleetwood: “I spent 16 years there, and they helped me every step of the way. I’m really thankful to everyone for helping me grow, on and off the pitch.”

Taking to Instagram, Bennett wrote: “After 16 years at Man United, my time has come to an end, can’t even put into words how appreciative I am of the people that have helped me on and off the pitch throughout my whole time at the club, I wish everyone the best.

“Ready to kick on and grow even more as a player and as a person.”
