Noni Madueke has been officially credited with a goal in Arsenal’s 4-0 triumph over Leeds United, as confirmed by the Premier League. The Gunners’ winger has now been recognised for the match’s second goal, which was initially deemed an own goal by Karl Darlow.
The Premier League Match Centre confirmed: “The goal accreditation panel has adjudged Arsenal‘s 38th-minute goal as a Madueke goal.”
Madueke’s achievement was immediately celebrated by his teammates, with William Saliba, Piero Hincapie and Kai Havertz swiftly gathering around him. The England international’s contribution added to Martin Zubimendi’s earlier goal, while Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus rounded off a splendid victory for Mikel Arteta‘s side.
“We’re professional so we are prepared,” he said after the game. “Happy that we got the win. I appreciate the supporters, it means a lot that they come so far from home. We heard them the whole 90 minutes, they were top today.
“We have been fighting on all four fronts since the start of the season. It goes without saying that everyone is ready when called upon. Every few days you have to be ready to perform. It is about staying locked in and in the zone.”
Arsenal manager Arteta was delighted that Madueke rose to the occasion when circumstances demanded it. The Spaniard heaped praise upon the winger’s contribution.
“We keep telling them to be ready because the most unexpected moments are going to be thrown in the battle, and it happened in the warm-up,” he said. “[Noni] was certainly ready. The way he prepares every day is fantastic, and he made a difference for the team.
“You talk about the strikers and their goals, but the work rate and the strength that they showed today, again both the starters and the finishers.
“When you talk about that combination, how we share the minutes and the impact that each player can have in his role, I think it was the perfect example today.”
