Bristol City can confirm Zak Vyner has joined Wrexham for an undisclosed fee, bringing an end to a 20-year association with the club.

Vyner joined the club’s Academy in 2006 and has made 264 appearances for the Robins.

Progressing through the academy ranks, Vyner made his City debut in a 2-0 Championship win over MK Dons in February 2016.

Loans spells with Accrington Stanley, Plymouth Argyle, Rotherham United and Aberdeen followed in the seasons after before becoming a regular member of the City side in the 2020/21 season.

In the 2022/23 season Vyner was named Players’ Player of the Year by his teammates, a demonstration of his growth as a player.

He was an ever-present in defence last season, as City secured a spot in the Sky Bet Championship Play-offs for the first time since 2008.

In October 2025, Vyner made his 219th Championship appearance for City, setting a new club record, surpassing the total reached by Marvin Elliot.

After two decades with the club, the 28-year-old has also been committed to the club’s work in the local community, supporting the Robins Foundation with a host of visits across the city.

Jon Lansdown praised Vyner’s development as a player and as a person in his time at Ashton Gate, adding: “It’s a rare feat that you get a player playing their entire career at one club and with Zak, he hasn’t quite done that but he has been a professional here for over a decade, with nearly another decade in the academy before that.

“It’s been a joy to watch Zak’s rise from the academy to our record Championship appearance holder which is a testament to his hard work and resilience.

“He has represented the club and the community in an exemplary way during that time and we wish him the very best for the future.”

On departing the club, Vyner said: “I’ve been on this journey with you since I was eight. I never imagined it would go this far. It’s been an honour to represent you, and I’m so proud to have worn the shirt so many times.

“There are many people I want to thank and acknowledge, starting with Steve and Jon for your trust in me throughout.

“To all the staff that make Bristol City so special and make going into train every day so great. To all the academy coaches I’ve had, I wouldn’t be here without you.

“To all my managers and coaches, I’ve learned lessons from all of you. A special message to the gaffer, Gerhard Struber, it’s been a privilege to play for you these past few months. The energy, confidence, and belief you’ve shown me I will always carry with me.

“To every one of my teammates, it’s been a pleasure to share a dressing room. We’ve made so many special memories together on and off the pitch and I’ve got friends for life.

“And finally, the fans. We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’ve shared so many amazing moments together. And I’m one of you now.”

The club wish Zak all the best for the future.
