Benjamin Sesko admitted he was “emotional” after scoring Manchester United’s winner against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. Michael Carrick oversaw a third win on the bounce in the top-flight thanks to an injury-time goal from Sesko at the Stretford End.
Fulham scored twice in quick succession to level the game in the 91st minute, but there was another twist when Bruno Fernandes found Sesko in the box with seconds to play. Sesko, who had been introduced from the bench, found the top right corner to secure a victory. The Slovenia international got off to a slow start in Manchester, but has improved in the last two months.
Speaking to MUTV, Sesko said: “It was emotional. It was amazing. It feels like a pleasure, helping the team, helping the fans and the club to secure the win. It’s always nice to help the team and score goals.”

Describing how it felt to score the winner, he added: “That was unbelievable. When I scored, I just didn’t know what was going on. But yeah, what a moment. Amazing time to score it.
“It’s quite high, especially in the Premier League when everything is way faster than in Germany. The goal is up there for me, even because it’s a moment like this, that’s why it’s up there.
“We work as one. I mean, we always have done, but you know, it’s bits by bits. And yeah, it just came together, especially off the ball. You can see the work rate from everyone.
“It’s benefiting us with the ball and off the ball, and, in the end, also with the results.”
Carrick praised Sesko in his post-match press conference, saying: “Huge moment. I’m so, so pleased. Everyone in the changing room, players, staff, delighted for him, absolutely delighted for him and the reception he got when he came back in the changing room told us everything.
“Confidence, it wasn’t so much that. He’s been fantastic, we’ve worked with him a lot in different ways over the last couple of weeks. He’s bright in training, he’s looked dangerous, he’s done extra.
“The coaches have done a lot of bits on the side and Travis [Binnion], particularly, has done a lot of work one-on-one with him. Ben’s a big talent, he’s got so many positive things.
“And today’s a huge goal because that feeling as a striker to score a winner in front of the Stretford End late like that, it’s what you dream of. After missing the chance, which is what it is, strikers miss chances, to go again and put that away. Absolutely so, so pleased for him. He really deserved it.”
