A 71-year-old man has died following a ‘serious’ crash in Salford, police have confirmed.
Emergency services raced to the scene on Eccles Old Road shortly after 9pm on Saturday (May 3). Sadly, the man, who was a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is believed he was struck by a car as the driver attempted to cross the second lane at the junction with Manor Road.
The driver, a 68-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, police said. He remains in custody for questioning.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 9:05pm on Saturday 3 May 2025, officers were called to reports of a serious road traffic collision on Eccles Old Road.
“As the vehicle passed the junction with Manor Road, a pedestrian was struck by a car as he attempted to cross the second lane.
“The 71-year-old pedestrian was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The driver, a 68-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.
“Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
