A Liverpool ONE restaurant has temporarily closed for a number of weeks. However, it isn’t all bad news, as the venue has teased that “something great” is coming.

Zizzi, on Paradise Street, is one of 130-something of the brand’s Italian restaurants around the UK. The casual dining restaurant chain has been going since 1999 and is known for its take on classic dishes such as pasta and pizza.

However, the city centre eatery has been shut for a week now. It closed on Monday, January 26 and will continue to close until Tuesday, February 10, as it undergoes a “glowing new makeover”, confirmed by the company’s PR team.

Posters in the Paradise Street site add: “Hey Liverpool, we are cooking up something great for you.” The refurbishment news comes after another Liverpool ONE restaurant has closed its doors.

Mamasan Bar and Brasserie first opened on College Lane back in 2021, bringing its South East Asian-inspired dishes and cocktails to the city after launching its first site in Glasgow.

The brand was founded by Brad Stevens, the creator of culinary concepts Bar Soba and Pizza Punks. Based inside the former Wahaca, Mamasan spanned three floors and featured striking interiors, DJ performances and an expansive panoramic roof terrace.

The contemporary restaurant took over the 6,875 sq ft space just after lockdown restrictions initially eased.

The venue originally shut just after Christmas due to an “unexpected gas issue”, which saw it having to move its bookings and New Year’s Eve party to a sister site on Bold Street.

Since then, the site has remained in darkness. But now the team has revealed that Mamasan has shut for good. Leaving a message to customers on Instagram, the company said: “The venue is closed for refurbishment for a new concept and won’t be reopening as Mamasan.

“We have moved the party to our sister venue, Pizza Punks Liverpool. Same party, same music, same energy. New home.”

This isn’t the only closure for Liverpool ONE recently. The ECHO previously reported how signs stating “this house is closing” have appeared in the window of the Under Armour store in Liverpool city centre.

The American sportswear company opened its Liverpool ONE venue, which was its first UK store, in March 2023.

The ECHO visited the store on Sunday, January 18 and spotted signs in the window. The sign reads: “This house is closing. The final run. Final sale, everything must go until January 31st.”

The ECHO approached Under Armour for further information.
