Transfer deadline day – Latest Moves
Concerned Kris Boyd reckons Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a success at Celtic if the free agent signs for the Hoops.
But the Rangers hero urged Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to intervene before a deal can be done. Reports south of the border have stated the Scottish Premiership champions are interested in the 32-year-old.
The former Liverpool and Gunners’ star has been out of contract since leaving Besiktas last summer, and could move to Parkhead outwith the window. On deadline day, Celtic have loaned in Junior Adamu from Freiburg while knocking back a £25million offer from Nottingham Forest for Arne Engles.
Lorient winger Joel Mvuka is on the agenda despite reports of issues with his medical, while a centre-back is also on the shopping list before the end of the winter window. But it’s murmurs around Oxlade-Chamberlain that raised a red flag for Boyd.
After Sky Sports presenter Gordon Duncan flagged that Mikel Arteta had refused to rule out a switch for the midfielder, Boyd said: “I think it was interesting what was said there, Mikel Arteta might want to keep him at Arsenal. I hope he does.
“He is obviously getting older but you don’t lose that ability that Oxlade-Chamberlain had. If Celtic complete that deal, the Arne Engels one is even more baffling.
“If you have got someone who was about to come in on a free transfer, and Nottingham Forest want to pay you £25million for Arne Engels I can’t believe you wouldn’t have taken it. It’s crazy.
“But, there is no doubt that Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a success in Scotland. He is someone who has done it, more or less, wherever he has went.

“Yes, he has had his injury problems but I think the older you get, the more you look after your body.
“I can’t say I done that myself, but I imagine someone of that level would.
“I think he would be a success at Celtic, but hopefully he stays where he is right now, training, and Mikel Arteta can get that deal over the line.”
