A man has been charged with the murder of a 19-year-old father in Sheffield two years ago.

Kevin Pokuta was attacked in the city’s Page Hall Road on 12 December, 2023 and died from a single gunshot wound.

South Yorkshire Police said Mr Pokuta was mistakenly targeted by one member of a gang who had earlier carried out a failed robbery.

Ethan Hallows, 24, of no fixed address, has now been charged with murder, conspiracy to rob, two firearms offences and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

Hallows has been remanded into custody until his appearance at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on 5th May 2025.

In November last year, 25-year-old Jake Brown, formally of Horninglow Road, Sheffield, was found guilty of murder following a five week trial. He was jailed for 36 years.

Sheffield Crown Court heard Brown and four others had plotted to rob a cannabis factory earlier in the day.

The raid failed after those running the growing operation defended it.

But a car resembling Mr Pokuta’s silver Skoda was reportedly driven at the robbers.

After trawling tens of thousands of hours of CCTV footage, police identified Brown and his accomplices Leon Waite, Lester Ramsey, Adam Mulligan and a 17-year-old boy who can’t be named because of his age.

Waite, Ramsey and Mulligan were all jailed for conspiracy to rob.

Waite, 27, of Denholme Close, Sheffield, was jailed for four years and six months.

Ramsey, 25, of Skelton Close, Sheffield, was sentenced to four years and six months.

Mulligan, 33, of High Hazel Crescent, Rotherham, was jailed for three years and six months.

The 17-year-old boy was given a two-year youth rehabilitation order.
