More than 160 jobs are at risk after Tesco Bank confirmed plans to relocate the majority of its customer service staff to Glasgow.
As part of its ongoing integration with Barclays, the bank said it is proposing to leave its offices at Quorum Business Park in North Tyneside later this year in a move it says will “simplify” its operations.
Around 162 staff are currently based at the site.
Customer service roles based in Newcastle would transfer to Tesco Bank’s existing service centre in Glasgow, where the bank already has a significant presence.
Tesco Bank said a formal consultation process is under way and that affected employees would be “strongly supported”, with efforts focused on redeployment opportunities within Tesco Bank and Barclays.
The changes follow Barclays’ acquisition of Tesco Bank’s banking operations in November 2024, with the two organisations continuing to align their operating models.
Glasgow will remain a central hub for the business. There will be no change for Tesco Bank employees already contracted in the city who moved to Barclays’ Clyde Place campus in the summer of 2025.
Tesco Bank will also retain an office in Edinburgh and is currently looking for an alternative site in the same area of the city, replacing its existing base at South Gyle Crescent.
Tesco Insurance and Money Services, which is also located at Quorum Business Park, will not be affected by the proposals.
